Discussion with Media Maker Berhard Drax for the August 8th NonProfit Commons Meeting

This Friday, August 8thTechSoup's NonProfit Commons in Second Life will feature a discussion with media maker Bernhard Drax (Draxtor Despres in SL) who will update us on his latest projects including The Drax Files Radio hour [with jo yardley] podcast, and the machinima series The Drax Files: World Makers, that focuses on people who are creative in virtual worlds.

About Berhard Drax

Bernhard Drax aka Draxtor Despres creates interactive audio/video content and devises new media concepts for corporate and academic clientele. In addition to producing music for film, television and the web Bernhard has a solid background in radio news production and print journalism.

The Drax Files World Makers is a show that examines the creative people behind the avatars who make the virtual world of Second Life what it is & move it forward with their passion and persistence. Mixed reality interviews form the basis of a reportage that profiles designers, game-makers, role-players and fashion aficionados, musicians, artists and social-issue activists for whom the Second Life avatar is not a separate entity but a true extension of themselves with which they navigate the digital space.

Behind the Scenes at Virtual Ability's New Resident Orientation for the June 20th NonProfit Commons Meeting

NonThis Friday, June 20th, TechSoup's NonProfit Commons in Second Life will feature a discussion with Alice Krueger (Gentle Heron in SL). Virtual Ability's New Resident Orientation Center was designed to help people with disabilities learn basic Second Life skills. Yet it also works well for newcomers without disabilities. It was built on specific theoretical principles and input from customers that significantly affect the design and operation of the orientation. Gentle will offer explanations of the design background in non-technical language, and then we will tour the instructional facilities on Virtual Ability island.

Before she became a person with a disability, Gentle was a classroom teacher, a researcher, and a professional developer. Now she is head of the SL Virtual Ability cross-disability peer support community and the real life (RL) non-profit Virtual Ability®, Inc. which supports the Second Life community.
